INTERNSHIPS

The Internship program provides individuals interested in contemporary art and arts administration an opportunity to gain first hand experience through participation in AAI’s curatorial initiatives, gallery operation and studio program administration.

Interns and volunteers are an integral part of the daily operations of AAI and are made up of students, artists, local community members, and other interested people looking to support the arts. All Interns/volunteers are asked for a minimum time commitment of three months in order to maintain continuity and ensure that the interns/volunteers have the opportunity to sustain involvement in a project. Interns/volunteers provide AAI with a variety of supports including, ensuring that the Cuchifritos art gallery/project space is open six days a week, assisting artists and curators with installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, assisting in publicity and mailing list work, and providing all AAI programs with general administrative assistance. Additionally the interns/volunteers provide creative support for a number of AAI’s Summer/Fall programs including Splash!, Safe-Non-Toxic-No-Sharps, and Semi-nude-life drawing, acting as models, workshop leaders and project coordinators.

Moving forward we will build on the success of this program by creating partnerships between interns/volunteers and the artists in our rotating and long-term studio programs. As artist assistants, interested interns/volunteers will have an exciting opportunity to work with and learn from professional working artists.

Thanks in great part to the tremendous work of Zeina Assaf, AAI’s Volunteer Intern Coordinator, AAI has been extremely fortunate to have a continuous group of dedicated interns/volunteers, many of whom continue working with AAI long after the three month commitment is over. Without the dedication and support of these interns/volunteers AAI would not be able to accomplish all that it does. For this, AAI is truly thankful to all of the interns/ volunteers who dedicate their time and creative resources to AAI’s programs.

We are especially thankful to Zeina Assaf for her coordination of the intern/volunteer staff.

Interns and Volunteers cover key elements of Artists Alliance programs.
